Aimee McCarron, Former Budget Director to Councilman Joe Giarrusso Qualifies for Open District A Council Seat 

Candidate Assembles Strong Team of Campaign Professionals

NEW ORLEANS, LA. – Aimee McCarron, a lifetime resident of New Orleans District A and the Policy and Budget Director for Councilman Joseph Giarrusso for the past three years, qualified Wednesday morning for election to the New Orleans City Council District A seat.

McCarron, 40, served as Council Budget Chair Giarrusso’s point person in developing and managing New Orleans’ $1.5 billion budget. She quickly earned a reputation as a public servant who demanded accuracy and accountability. As a candidate, McCarron, a Democrat, has emphasized the need to strengthen the city workforce to provide better and more efficient services to residents. She believes strongly in enlisting community input when planning and budgeting for the city’s future.

Among her platform planks, McCarron supports government reforms including promoting transparency in spending, developing a systematic approach to assessing infrastructure, promoting workforce development to help expedite basic service delivery, prioritizing projects based on need, revitalizing Code Enforcement, and continuing the Mental Health Collaborative. Prior to her service with Giarrusso, McCarron served as an award-winning financial advisor for nearly a decade with Prudential Advisors. She began her professional career in management with the Ralph Brennan Restaurant Group.

McCarron is a graduate of Ursuline Academy High School, the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Orleans. Said McCarron, “As Councilmember, I will keep the residents of Mid-City, Lakeview, Hollygrove, Carrolton, and Uptown informed and engaged in decision-making. I will be accountable and champion the issues that constituents want addressed most and be present in our neighborhoods to expedite solutions I am a career planner, and we must increase the city’s capacity and competence to manage the basics of governance; this includes paving streets, lighting neighborhoods and roadways, strengthening flood protection, enhancing security, and more. This will be my full-time responsibility, and I have been well-trained to execute at a high Level.”

McCarron served as Past President of the Young Leadership Council for almost 10 years. As a member, McCarron served on the Young Leadership Council’s finance committee, chaired the nominations committee, co-chaired the Role Model Gala, and chaired the strategic planning committee. She serves as a Commissioner of the Lakeview Crime Prevention District, as a Board Member of Independent Women’s Organization (IWO), as a member of the Bureau of Governmental Research (BGR), the Lakeview Civic Association, and previously served on the Finance Committee of KIPP New Orleans.

McCarron has assembled a strong team of proven professionals to help her deliver her campaign message. Her team includes Zervigon Consulting, led by fundraiser Mario Zervigon and Leo Marsh; demographer and data specialist Betty Thibodeaux of Gulf Coast Resources; direct mail and digital strategists from Resonance Campaigns; and general consultant and media strategist Greg Buisson of Buisson Creative. McCarron qualified early morning on opening day, accompanied by her husband, Dr. Ross McCarron, and their twins, Conrad and Vivienne.
